Last night I went and played in a constructed tournament up at Clockwork Games, and placed 13 out of 20. It was pretty brutal.
I took a modified version of the pauper deck I ran over the weekend, and added a few cards to make it legal for Type 2 play, like Pyromancer Ascension and Conquering Manticore. Alas, the only two decks I managed to beat were a BG vampire deck and a mono U control deck.
So after only winning 2 out of 4 rounds, I got my consolation M11 booster pack and pulled Necrotic Plague. Interesting…

Last Saturday I had the chance to play in my first Pauper tournament at Clockwork Games in College Station. This is the deck that I ended up using. Since there were only 4 players, it turned into a round robin tournament, and unfortunately I didn’t do quite as well as I would have liked, but I can see that there is definitely some potential to this deck, although I had to borrow a few cards to run it.
In the first round, I had the game in the bag in abut 5 turns running against a burn/Eldrazi deck. Round two put me up against another heavy duty burn deck, and I just didn’t get the mana draw that I needed (a problem that plagued me through the last round as well). Round three put me up agains a UG aggro deck that was hard to stop once it got rolling, thanks to Scythe Tiger.

So I managed to pull some pretty sweet cards this past week. Not quite as good as I have been doing, but I did manage to pull a Baneslayer Angel from an M11 booster as well as a Triskelion – which I think people are kind of playing down, although I used to use it in some really nice decks back in the day. I’m excited about it.
I did trade off my Lotus Cobra for some boosters, which didn’t quite give me the return I had hoped for. Yes, I do tend to gamble a bit with cards I’m not using at the time. Hey, I only had one, and I can’t afford to buy more to finish off the playset at this time. Give me some time. Heh.
I know I pulled something else pretty cool, but that’s all I can remember for now. Hopefully soon I’ll remember to write up a post about how our Pauper tournament went this past weekend.

This week has been a bad week for me, so I decided to sell my Primeval Titan.
Hey, it was a fast, easy $15. And in a few weeks I’ll be picking up some more M11 booster packs, so it’s possible that I’ll pull another one.
I’m thinking about listing some of my rare and mythic cards on ebay to try to raise some cash.
Or I may just have a contest to jump start this blog.
What do you think?

We had a pretty small turnout last Friday for FNM. The format was a booster draft (which for those that don’t know involves drafting cards from three booster packs to try to build the best deck). Got some pretty decent pulls, like Captivating Vampire, but nothing to make a really stellar deck from.
One of the best decks I went up agains was – get this – a mill deck with a pair of Protean Hydras. Nasty indeed. Who knew you could put together an effective mill strategy by drafting? But apparently you can using Jace’s Erasure and Temple Bell. It was annoying to say the least.
I ended up placing 9 out of 10. I’m not very good at the draft format right now, but with time and practice, I’ll get there.

Next Saturday there is going to be a pauper tournament at Clockwork Gaming in College Station, TX. I’m planning on playing in it.
For those that may not know, this particular format of Magic is played using only cards of the common rarity. Does this level the playing field a bit for newbies? Perhaps. It simply means you won’t see Jace randomly jump out of someones butt. No Vengevine, either.
I’ve been trying to get a good deck concept going, based on Plated Geopede and lots of lands, but the problem is that I haven’t built a pauper deck in so long, that I’m really not sure if I can build one that will work.
I’ll try to post the tentative deck list this evening. Can anybody recommend a good pauper deck?

So I’ve figured out that I cannot access this site from home, which is a problem since that’s where I keep all of my Magic decks.
Sorry about the slow launch of this site, but I’ve got a lot of stuff planned for it.
So in the meantime, what is your favorite Magic: the Gathering set and why?

I had managed to get two posts written before I had to reinstall WordPress. I hope that’s not a running theme with this host…
So, how did you do at the M11 Prerelease? Any good pulls? I managed to get a Primeval Titan in addition to the foil Sun Titan promo that they were giving away. I snagged some other cool stuff as well, and I’ll go into more detail on those in an upcoming post.
